Three Hindu men were detained “without incident” on the grounds of a local temple in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, as authorities failed to disclose the charges against them, authorities said on Monday, triggering an atmosphere of tension in the community.

The incident took place when local people had gathered at the temple to celebrate and worship.

“Details surrounding the arrest are still emerging and authorities have not yet announced specific charges,” they said.

Police presence around the temple was increased as officers moved in to detain the three teenagers, according to witnesses.
