ADAMS, Tenn. (WSMV) – Fire officials say high winds are to blame for a tobacco warehouse being destroyed by fire. Smoky Barn News.

Fire crews responded to a barn fire on Kinneys Road just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters found a 9-acre tobacco barn completely engulfed in flames at the scene, Smokey Barn said.

The barn was full of dried tobacco. The barn and produce were considered a total loss. Adams Fire Chief Donovan Tucker said the estimated tobacco loss was $98,000 and the barn was worth $150,000.

Total damage is around $248,000.

Smokey Barn reported that Tucker said high winds contributed to the severity of the fire.

“When the wind blows hard, the barns will move, which will cause a tobacco stick to fall into the fire, igniting both the barn and the curing crop inside,” said Tucker.

Adams Fire Department and Robertson County EMS responded to the scene.

Smokey Barn said no injuries were reported.

This is the second tobacco warehouse fire in Robertson County this week.
