WALLER, Texas (KTRK) — Police say one person died after a speeding vehicle crashed onto FM 362 and sank into a pond early Sunday morning.

The Waller Police Department Chief said the vehicle was traveling 120 mph at 3 a.m., hit an embankment, went over a fence and landed in a pond near Cameron Road.

Authorities said they initially tried to follow the car but called off the chase due to safety concerns. When they finally caught up to the vehicle, they reported finding it underwater with a female driver inside.

A firefighter and police officer worked to get the woman out, but she was already dead, according to the police chief.

Authorities did not identify the woman.
