Ohio State rises, Clemson falls in college football rankings

As we pick up the pieces from Saturday’s pivotal Statewide Reveal, let’s take a look at where things stand in the AP’s new top 25 college football rankings for Week 11.

Seven teams lost out on the weekend in last week’s poll, leaving the AP’s top 25 voters to make some big decisions, especially in the middle of the pack, as candidates lay eggs just days before the selection committee announces its initial rankings.

Clemson and Texas A&M are big losers in the new rankings after surprising losses that opened up some more room at the top of the ACC and SEC standings, respectively.

Ohio State moved into the No. 3 seed after defeating Penn State this week. Despite the loss, Penn State remains ranked in the top 10 in the national poll for November football.

And while Georgia eventually beat Florida, its slow start and overall poor performance caused the Bulldogs to lose out on first-place votes this week.

Where do we stand in this week’s updated top 25 college football rankings? Let’s take a look at which teams are moving up and down based on AP voters and who is staying put in Week 11.

How did we do it? Our prediction for AP’s top 25 rankings

And… Coaches’ Poll Week 11 top 25 rankings

These teams received votes in the AP top 25 voting but were not enough to be included in the official rankings this week

Missouri 81, South Carolina 58, Tulane 41, UNLV 9, UL Lafayette 9, Washington 4, Arizona State 3, Iowa 2, Texas Tech 2.

Penn State (down by 3 points). As expected, the Nittany Lions fell after another loss to Ohio State, but remain in the top 10 and still very much in the expanding playoff conversation.

Indiana (up to 5). The Hoosiers improved to 9-0 for the first time since defeating Michigan State and were tied for the top spot with Oregon in the Big Ten standings.

SMU (up to 7th). The signature upset against then-undefeated Pittsburgh makes the Mustangs a team to watch in the ACC championship picture.

Clemson (down by 8 points). AP voters punished the Tigers for coming up short at home against Louisville, ending a six-game win streak that put a pause on the team’s nascent playoff aspirations.

Pittsburgh (down by 5 points). There was some concern that AP top 25 voters would drop Pitt out of the rankings given the losing margin against SMU, but Pitt remains at No. 23.

Texas A&M (Dropped to 5). After the Aggies responded to last week’s win over LSU by criticizing South Carolina, there are no more undefeated teams left in SEC play.

And then there were five.

Amid the negativity in this weekend’s matches, three of the remaining eight undefeated teams suffered their first defeat of the season; All from the Power Four rankings.

This week we bid farewell to Penn State, Pittsburgh and Iowa State.

ACC: Miami

Big Ten: Oregon, Indiana

Big 12: BYU

AAC: Army
