Night Stalker is the “scariest” true crime documentary out there and is now on Netflix

The spooky season may be over, but there are still plenty of true crime series to keep you on your toes, and Netflix’s Night Stalker is one of them.

But for those who really want to be scared by some real-life stories, Netflix’s best offering is Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer. The docuseries, which first aired in 2021, is receiving a new wave of appreciation from horrified fans, thanks to a popular Reddit thread.

When asking for suggestions for the “scariest” documentaries possible streaming serviceNight Stalker came out on top. The four-part series explores the crimes and capture of Richard Ramirez (aka the Night Stalker) in California in the 1980s.

Ramirez has since been known as one of the most prolific killers of all time, with at least fifteen murder victims to his name. He got this nickname after breaking into houses and stealing, which later turned into murder.

He was captured by authorities in 1985, but not before terrorizing much of Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. All this and more is discussed in the documentary, which has been praised as one of Netflix’s scariest series.

“A few years ago I watched a documentary called Night Stalker. I don’t remember if it’s still on Netflix. “It shook me,” he explained a user.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) Night Stalker is still on the platform. Another wrote: “I didn’t realize how much it affected me until I had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.”

“I remember closing all my windows when I watched this,” another person said. “I thought I got over being afraid of watching horror movies, but this is something different.” A third added: “This gave me nightmares for some reason.”

“I remember watching this doctor during a heat wave and feeling uneasy about having the windows open at night,” he said in one comment. “That police sketch/composite drawing still haunts my dreams!”
