West Midlands Fire Service issues update on Wednesbury floods

A statement from West Midlands Fire Brigade said: “Crews were on the scene of flooding in the Leabrook Road area until the early hours of this morning. Fire personnel also helped distribute water from Gallagher Retail Park.

“The scene was handed over to South Staffs Water (SSW) at 2am with the water level dropping significantly.

“South Staffordshire Water worked overnight to repair the burst water main. It has now been confirmed that water has been restored to all customers. Customers may notice discoloration and should run taps until the water becomes clear. Discolored water should not be drunk or used in cooking.

“Some customers in a small section of Tipton may experience power outages while SSW continues to operate in the area. A generator was installed last night by National Grid for the handful of residents who are still without power. They will be reconnected today.”

The update added: “WMFS crews returned to the church on Leabrook Road North this morning to assist in removing standing water from the crypt. SSW will today take part in the operation to clear leaves and debris which will assist with the natural drainage of any remaining water.”

“Roads remain closed. Please check West Midlands Travel for updates: https://disruptions.tfwm.org.uk/

West Midlands Metro has confirmed that flooding has affected Wednesbury Parkway Tube Station.

They tweeted: “Due to road closures in the area, the entrance to the park and car park on Wednesbury Parkway is inaccessible. Please use alternative parking and car parks on our network until further notice.”
