Kolkata, Nov 3 (PTI) Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari has termed the alleged rape and murder of a girl in Alipurduar district as horrific and heartbreaking.

The senior BJP leader visited the minor’s home and met his mother on Saturday and assured the family of any assistance they might require, legal or any other matter.

“I met his mother and spoke to his father on the phone. “I learned that there were irregularities in the autopsy procedures, which may later prevent the case from being heard in court,” he wrote in X.

Adhikari demanded the Mamata Banerjee government to introspect what is wrong in the system and how to proactively deal with the situation so that sexual harassers on the prowl can be stopped.

“This horrific and heartbreaking incident in Alipurduar district is yet another addition to the spate of sexual crimes against children and women in the state. “The Mamata Banerjee government must review what is wrong with the system and how to deal with the situation proactively so that sexual predators on the prowl can be stopped before another unsuspecting innocent girl becomes a victim of such a horrific crime,” the opposition leader said. A girl was allegedly raped and murdered in West Bengal’s Alipurduar district on Friday, and angry villagers lynched one of the accused.
