Recent rains not enough to ease Alabama’s drought, Fire Hazard Warning in effect

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The entire state of Alabama remains under a drought and Fire Danger Warning despite some recent rainfall.

While most of our state is experiencing a “moderate” drought, some places are experiencing more “severe” conditions.

This is a look at the current drought monitor.

Note that this was before the rain in the last few hours of October, which helped a bit.

Before the rain, this would have been one of the driest Octobers on record for the City of Birmingham.

However, it was not enough to get rid of the drought.

In fact, this is still Anniston’s driest October on record.

All 67 counties currently fall under the Alabama Forestry Commission’s Fire Danger Advisory.

The commission said 246 wildfires burned nearly 3,000 acres in a 30-day period.

The state has not put a restriction on burns, but it strongly discourages outdoor burning until the weather improves.
