Hayes and Jamora are then shown leaving the house and continuing their argument in the driveway. “I won’t let you hit me anymore,” Jamora can be heard saying in the video. “What do I look like, a punching bag?”

Shortly after this comment, the video shows Hayes walking away from Jamora and then turning his head back and spitting in her direction.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene in Woodland Hills, California, following a report of a domestic disturbance and Hayes was arrested. In June 2022, he was sentenced to three years probation, 450 hours of community service and a year of weekly domestic violence classes.

The NBA did not discipline Hayes following the initial investigation into the arrest.

“There is already a comprehensive investigation in place where we are cooperating with the league, and we will continue to do so once that investigation is reopened,” a spokesperson for Hayes told ESPN on Saturday.

Hayes was also ordered to pay restitution, according to Rob Wilcox, spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.

Police body camera video showed Hayes fighting with officers and being shot twice with an electronic stun gun after being ordered out of the house while trying to question a woman inside. Hayes told cops the woman was his girlfriend and that the woman “threw things” at him while they were arguing.

Hayes was treated at the hospital after the argument. A police officer who was thrown against a wall by Hayes was treated for an elbow injury.

Even though more than three years have passed since the incident, new lawsuits were filed this week.

A lawsuit filed Tuesday by attorneys representing Jamora and obtained by ESPN alleges that the officer with whom Hayes fought, Robert T. Tamate, “previously met with Hayes’ attorneys and received financial compensation from Hayes for unknown reasons.”

A spokesperson for Jamora told ESPN: “We know the NBA has a intolerant policy towards domestic violence, and as such the victim welcomes further investigation into Hayes’ actions and will cooperate with that investigation.”

Hayes signed a two-year, $4.6 million contract with the Lakers in the summer of 2023.

“I think the most important thing is that we take these very seriously and do a full review process,” Rob Pelinka, the Lakers’ executive vice president of basketball operations and general manager, told reporters at the time when asked about Hayes’ signing. “Jaxson was very friendly (with) He apologized for the situation and went beyond that to the point where he played a year or two in the NBA. “That was something we felt like he owned up to, took responsibility for it, and would be a better person on the other side.”

A Lakers spokesperson contacted Saturday night told ESPN: “We are cooperating with the league.”

24-year-old Hayes is averaging 5.0 points and 4.2 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game with the Lakers, who started the season 4-2.
