Richmond beat Towson 35-24 for its 7th consecutive win

Camden Coleman threw a pair of touchdown passes to Landon Ellis and Richmond stayed atop the Coastal Athletic Association with a 35-24 victory over Towson on Saturday.

The Spiders (7-2, 5-0), ranked 12th in the FCS coaches poll, remained undefeated in the CAA game against Rhode Island. Richmond’s seventh straight homecoming win gave the Spiders their longest winning streak since 2015 and their best start in the CAA.

Coleman’s 13-yard TD pass to Ellis provided the first points of the game, and their 10-yard connection late in the second quarter gave them a 19-10 lead at halftime.

Jabril Hayes’s 6-yard field goal from 90 yards at the beginning of the fourth quarter made the score 29-17. Hayes also recovered one of Towson’s three lost fumbles. Jeremiah Grant had three of Richmond’s seven sacks.

Irish freshman Sean O’Haire had five goals for the Spiders, who scored on seven possessions.

Coleman threw for 230 yards, 110 of which went to Jerry Garcia Jr. Zach Palmer-Smith rushed for 98 yards on 28 carries.

Sean Brown threw for 275 yards, including an 80-yard score to John Dunmore, who received 123 yards for the Tigers (4-5, 2-3).
