ATCHISON COUNTY — Law enforcement is investigating a suspect on multiple allegations following a shootout with police.

Just before 1 p.m. According to Police Chief Mike Wilson, on Oct. 31, officers responded to a disturbance in the 100 Block South 8th Street in Atchison.

Officers located a woman, later identified as Michema Laurent, 41, of Atchison, who was involved in a disturbance. When confronted, he threw a glass of liquid in the police officer’s face. During an altercation with officers, he kicked an officer in the face and chest and resisted arrest. It was determined that the detained person was using marijuana and drugs. He was taken to the District Jail.

Laurent is being held on requested charges including battery on a law enforcement officer, interference with law enforcement, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
