Boston Celtics Legend’s Polarizing Derrick Rose Statement Goes Viral

Derrick Rose is a Chicago Bulls legend and one of the most popular players in modern NBA history. Despite all his fan base, Rose never had the honor of winning an NBA championship in the city where he grew up. Regardless, Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett believes Rose should still have his own statue in the city.

During an episode of the series The Ticket and the Truth podcastGarnett made a passionate call for the Chicago Bulls to build a statue of Derrick Rose.

“There’s a statue of D-Rose in Chicago, and it doesn’t have to be on Mike’s side. Mike needs to have his own thing. My brother was involved with the Bulls as soon as he came to grow up in Chicago, right up until birth,” Garnett said. “You get drafted by the Bulls, that’s magical. We’ve never seen that. Then you win MVP?! Bro, you’re the people’s champion. That’s the ultimate fantasy for every kid that plays in the creation, who? We play on the street.”

Garnett’s comments sparked a huge debate online, garnering more than 240,000 views and more than 6,500 likes. While many agree with Garnett’s statements, many strongly disagree, claiming that Rose has never won a championship for the city. Some believe Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman deserve statues before Rose.

But Garnett got a little overzealous in his defense, claiming four or five million people would show up for the statue ceremony.

“By the time they figure this out, there will be about four or five million people on the streets,” Garnett said.
