When officers arrived at the scene, they found an injured 37-year-old man on the 5th floor who was taken by ambulance to Altru Emergency Department.

According to the investigation, an argument broke out between at least two people and resulted in a stabbing. Eyewitnesses who came to the scene identified the suspect.

Officers later discovered that a construction vehicle (a 2017 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup owned by NorthStar Safety) parked near the Northlands Rescue Mission had been stolen.

Using the GPS tracking system, an employee learned he was heading north on North Washington Street and approaching Bacon Rd.

Deputies from the Grand Forks Sheriff’s Department found the truck in the area. While attempting to stop traffic, the suspect accelerated and continued northbound. Deputies and the North Dakota Highway Patrol pursued the vehicle and a tire deflation device was used, resulting in one of the vehicle’s rear tires being deflated. But the man continued heading toward Walsh County.

As the truck approached North Dakota Highway 18S and 65th Street, the tire deflation devices were activated again, resulting in the vehicle’s two front tires being deflated.

The stolen truck continued on its way before crashing into the intersection of North Dakota Highway 18S and North Dakota Highway 17, where the car came to a stop and got stuck in a field.

The police ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, which he did. He was taken into custody without further incident. Police said no one was injured during the pursuit and no other cars, other than the stolen vehicle, were damaged.
