Single-vehicle accident ends in death of 70-year-old man

MINDEN, La. (KSLA) – A driver went off the road and fatally crashed into a tree in Webster County.

At 11:45 a.m. on November 1, Louisiana State Police (LSP) responded to a single-vehicle crash on Dorcheat Road north of Grigsby Road in Webster Parish. John Waldron, 70, of Sibley, was killed in the crash.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Waldron was driving a 2013 Ford pickup on Dorcheat Road when, for unknown reasons, he veered off the road and struck a tree.

Waldron, who was not arrested, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Impairment is not suspected by LSP, but routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for testing.

The investigation into the accident continues.

“Although not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly reduce the likelihood of occupant death and greatly reduce the extent of injuries. Ensuring that each passenger is properly secured can often mean the difference between life and death,” LSP said in a statement.
