San Diego County Deputies and a Good Samaritan Step into Action to Save a Woman from a House Fire in Vista

November 2, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials, Deputy Sheriffs and a san diego county sheriff department logoA good Samaritan jumped into action to save a woman from a house fire in Vista.

On Friday, Nov. 1, just after 1:30 a.m., deputies from the Vista Sheriff’s Station responded to a house fire in the 200 block of W. Bobier Drive. When police teams arrived at the scene, they saw the house in flames. At the same time, the Good Samaritan warned deputies that someone was still inside the burning house.

Without hesitation, Deputy Robert Oliveri entered through the front door and walked through the smoke to find the person inside the home. Meanwhile, Deputy Craig Vanden Bossche and the Good Samaritan were able to communicate with a woman in the home through an open window. Deputy Vanden Bossche and the Good Samaritan then pulled the woman to safety through the window with the help of Deputy Oliveri.

The rescued woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Deputy Oliveri was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation. Both the deputies and the Good Samaritan are expected to be OK.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office recognizes these heroes for their quick thinking and dedication during this life-saving operation.

“The men and women of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office put their lives on the line every day for the communities they serve.” said Lt. Matthew Carpenter of the Vista Sheriff’s Station.. “Last night’s incident is yet another example of the extraordinary courage our deputies have shown to protect lives. I am incredibly proud of every deputy who responded to the call. I also want to express my deepest gratitude to the brave community member who risked his safety. His courage and quick response to help a stranger was a “It played an important role in saving lives.”
