The Prince’s case stems from a decision to limit police protection while he was in the UK in 2020. Concerns among constitutional experts include the possibility of Harry sharing private conversations, leading to false statements that could legally incriminate the King, as seen in his memoir Spare.

A senior constitutional advisor to the Royal Family said: Telegram“We have an unfortunate situation here where the King’s son is suing the King’s ministers in the King’s courts. This pulls the King in three directions.”

“There is also the case of the King’s son publishing accounts of private conversations, some of which are false.”

Harry’s comments could land King Charles in legal trouble

The adviser stressed that if Harry revealed a conversation with his father about the case – whether true or not – it could put the King in “serious legal jeopardy”.

This concern recalls past events such as the 2002 trial of former butler Paul Burrell; this case, Queen Elizabeth II. It collapsed as Elizabeth suddenly remembered important information, leading to allegations of undue royal influence in legal proceedings.

Palace officials, however, say King Charles is open to mending relations with Harry and Meghan, but he needs to tread carefully, especially given that some palace staff believe Harry’s past comments have been misunderstood. Staff claim they do their best to help the Duchess of Sussex, but claim she often refuses to cooperate.

In June, Harry was given permission to appeal the earlier dismissal of his case in order to ensure the “fair and lawful implementation” of security policies implemented by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec). A spokesman for Harry said: “The Duke of Sussex hopes he will get justice from the court of appeal. The Duke does not want preferential treatment, he wants Ravec’s own rules to be applied fairly and lawfully.”
