The description of Golf Games That’s exactly what it sounds like. Want to mix it up and try something new for once? Someone has to do the thankless job of playing different golf formats and telling them if it’s worth it. You can thank me later.

As we have made clear over the past few months, golf gambling games come in all shapes and sizes. Some are complicated, some can cost you a ton of money on a bad day, and some can still be fun and highly competitive while remaining relatively low stakes. “Rabbit” is in category number 3.

Required number of players: Two to four.

Best for: An actor who is both serious and non-serious. Those who enjoy a fun little side game, but this could also be the main game.

How to play: It gets the name “Rabbit” because you are…wait for it…literally chasing the “Rabbit”. The rabbit goes to the person who wins the first hole on the front nine downright. Taking handicaps into account, this would be the group’s low net score. That person is now the owner of the Rabbit. If the next hole is a draw (two draws, all draws), that player still owns the Rabbit. The only way to “release the Rabbit” is for another player to win a hole outright, in which case the Rabbit can now be won again. You can’t steal a rabbit from someone. He must be released, and if another player wins a hole, he becomes the owner of the Rabbit. This game is played on both nines. So the player who owns the Rabbit after the ninth hole wins the front nine (regardless of the amount of $$ agreed upon before the round). A new Rabbit game begins on the back nine, and after the 18th hole, the owner of the Rabbit wins the back nine. If no one owns the Rabbit after the ninth round, play continues until round 18, and after 18 the owner of the Rabbit wins both bets.

Variations: There are a few different ways to modify this game if you want. One way is to let the Rabbit be stolen. So if Player A wins the Rabbit in Hole No. 1 with a low net score, Player B wins Hole No. 2, Player B now owns the Rabbit and skips the “Release the Rabbit” step.

Another variation will actually make the Rabbit much harder to get once it’s won. You can add “legs” to the rabbit. Let’s say Player A wins the first and second holes outright. Player A would now have both legs of the Rabbit, meaning that the other players in the group would first have to win two holes outright to release the Rabbit, after which he would be up for grabs again. This rewards the player who gets off to a fast start and sets the pace, just like a Rabbit would in a race.
