A 75-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at her 4S Ranch home Thursday morning, and a suspect the victim did not know was arrested hours later, a San Diego County Sheriff’s sergeant said.

Around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, a man knocked on the door of her home on Carmel Valley Road and asked the woman if her dogs needed to be bathed. The dogs were in the front yard of the property, Sgt. Marcello Orsini said on Friday.

“The two began talking and eventually the man was invited to the home,” Orsini said in a press release.

After entering the house, the stranger sexually assaulted the victim. Orsini said that the woman’s caregiver, who was inside the house, prevented the attack. The man jumped into a car and fled.

Sheriff’s Deputies from the 4S Ranch Sheriff’s Station and the Sheriff’s Fraud/Elder Abuse Unit initiated an investigation. They identified the suspect from the vehicle the attacker was in and the photo taken.

Less than eight hours later, deputies contacted the 52-year-old suspect when he arrived at his home in Solana Beach. Orsini said the man was driving the same car that the attacker used to escape the incident.

The suspect was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of sexual assault and elder abuse.
