Georgia Republicans They appear confident that the state’s record-breaking early voting numbers will boost 2024 presidential candidates.

“It was a record turnout, it’s incredible; votes came from all over the state,” Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones told Fox News Digital. “I think the enthusiasm and momentum is with President Trump.”

The former commander in chief lost Georgia by less than 1% in 2020, and Republicans spent tremendous time and resources trying to win Georgia back on Nov. 5.

A key part of that strategy has been to persuade people to vote early, a method of voting traditionally more favored by Democrats.

And both parties’ emphasis on early voting has had a jarring effect. During the early voting period from Oct. 15 to Nov. 1, more than half of the state’s active voters, nearly 4 million Georgians, cast ballots in person or absentee.

More than 700,000 people who voted in 2024 did not vote at all in 2020. Georgia Votes.

Meanwhile, the top three districts in voter participation rates are as follows: rural areas Trump won in 2020.

Both of these factors are positive indicators for the former president, Jones suggested.

“We have a large number of voters who voted in 2016 but did not vote in 2020. … What makes me believe these are Trump voters is that a lot of them are from pretty strong Republican strongholds of the state,” he said.

“You start breaking down where they live, where they’ve been historically as far as the Republican cards they’ve drawn in the past, and as I said, the enthusiasm (for Trump) on the ground is off the charts right now.”

Asked why he believes some of Trump’s supporters are voting now when they didn’t in 2020, Jones said, “I’ll be honest with you. I think there’s a lot of people who feel like they’re president.” He had a win in the purse in 2020.

“Sometimes I wonder if this false sense of security is harming us in 2020.”

Still, it will likely be difficult to get a full picture of how well Republicans’ early voting strategy is working until after Election Day.

Hispanic voters make up the largest share of those who voted in early 2024 but did not vote at all in 2020, accounting for 37.6% of that number, according to Georgia Votes.
