The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has asked the Nigerian Police to transfer the case file of 76 Endbad administration protesters who were brought to trial for treason.

Fagbemi disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

This came after the #Endbadgovernance protesters, identified as minors, were arraigned in court and later granted bail of N10 million each and the case was adjourned until January 2025.

Reacting, the AGF said that the case will be taken over by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF) within the AGF Office from today, Saturday, November 2, 2024.

He said the DPPF had directed the court to initiate the evaluation process to advance the postponement date from the following January.

Fagbemi added that his move on the matter was necessary for him to make an informed decision.

“I have just noticed that the police are taking people arrested in connection with the Endbad administration’s violent protest to court for various crimes, including treason.

“There are some issues my office needs to look into before I can make an informed decision.

“I know that the court took the defendants to detention centers and postponed the case until January.

“It is not within my authority to change the court’s decision to send the defendants to detention centers and postpone the case until January.

“However, I have directed the Nigerian Police to transfer the case file to my office and hand over the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF) tomorrow, Saturday, November 2, 2024.
