TOPEKA (KSNT) – People at the Kansas statehouse celebrated Dias De Los Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead, on Friday.

This is a holiday of remembrance. Students and families from Wichita, Dodge City and Topeka gathered at the Kansas Capitol to honor this holiday and educate others.

The celebration began with students in Dodge City telling everyone about the holiday in English and Spanish. Latin dancers from Wichita followed the presentation with two performances that included four-year-old dancers.

The holiday celebration in the capital ended with a special dessert, Bread of the Dead.

“So this is a very special bread,” said Ernesto De La Rosa, chairman of the Kansas Commission on Hispanic Affairs. “Today it is produced in Topeka by one of the local Latinos. Great bread. “So it is once again meaningful for our loved ones and a way to show and remember that we appreciate them.”

The holiday continues its celebrations today, celebrating the souls of children who have passed away. And from midnight the focus shifts to all adults.
