HOPEWELL, N.Y. — An 84-year-old man from Victor died Friday at the hospital where he was under observation following a crash in Hopewell on Thursday.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at the intersection of State Route 488 and Freshour Road around 3:35 p.m. Ronald Schanche was stopped on Freshour Road and began traveling northbound along Route 488, but failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle driven by Tara E. Curia, 47, of Newark. MPs say. Curia’s vehicle hit Schanche on the driver’s side.

Following the accident, both drivers were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. A front-seat passenger in Schanche’s vehicle was not injured.

Schanche died early Friday due to medical complications while still under observation at Strong, deputies said.
