Man faces multiple charges after Grand Forks stabbing and pursuit in Walsh County

GRAND FORKS, ND (Valley News Live) – Grand Forks Police say they were called to 420 Division Ave. at 7:42 a.m. Friday morning for a report of a man being stabbed. Police said when they arrived, they found a 37-year-old man with obvious injuries to his body on the 5th floor of the Northlands Rescue Mission.

Police said they believe there was an argument between the two people involved before the stabbing. Witnesses at the scene told police the suspect was 44-year-old Moses G. Ayom.

While police were investigating the stabbing, another call came in about a construction vehicle parked outside Northlands Rescue Mission reported stolen.

Police said the vehicle was equipped with a GPS tracking system and the employee was able to locate the vehicle traveling north on North Washington Street near Bacon Rd.

Deputies in the area where the stolen truck was found tried to pull it over, but Ayom sped away instead. Deputies say Ayom continued to drive toward Walsh County with one tire deflated, so Walsh County Deputies were called to assist.

At ND Hwy 18S and 65th St., deputies were able to use more tire deflation devices, this time deflating the front tires, police said. Ayom finally stopped when he crashed near ND Hwy. 18S and ND Hwy. (17) was stranded in the field. Police said Ayom consented to get out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Ayom was transported back to Grand Forks County and faces county charges of fleeing, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. Ayom faces an additional charge from the Grand Forks Police Department for motor vehicle theft. Walsh County does not currently have any charges against Ayom.

Police said the investigation into the stabbing is still ongoing and information regarding the stabbing has been forwarded to the Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office for consideration of Attempted Murder and Aggravated Assault.

The victim of the stabbing was taken to Altru. Police said no one was injured during the pursuit and no other vehicles, other than the stolen vehicle, were damaged.
