MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio – A Cleveland man, then 51, and a 23-year-old Cleveland woman may face criminal charges after police found what they believed to be crack cocaine and other suspected drugs in his Range Rover.

Around 1 p.m. on Oct. 26, police saw the Range Rover exit Interstate 71 and turn west onto Bagley Road. They started following the vehicle because its windows were very dark.

Police pulled the Range Rover over as it was parked in a parking lot at the Sonesta ES Suites, 17525 Rosbough Drive. Since they could not see inside the vehicle, they asked the driver to lower the window.

The Cleveland woman driving opened the door slightly. He said he couldn’t lower the window because he didn’t have the car key.

The woman said she only had a temporary driver’s licence. She said the Range Rover belonged to her boyfriend, a Cleveland man, and was next to him in a Nissan Rogue with Georgia license plates.

The man was not inside the Nissan but appeared while police were talking to the woman. He acknowledged that police had previously warned him about the dark glass color of the Range Rover.

Police later recalled that they had stopped the same Range Rover in June. At that time, the woman had drug materials in her possession.

Police learned the man was in federal custody. They found a glass pipe, which police believe was a drug paraphernalia, on the woman and a stack of bills in the man’s pocket.

The woman argued with police and did not move out of the way so police could search the Range Rover. The police removed the woman from the vehicle.

Police found four plastic bags containing suspected crack cocaine, white powder, marijuana and a dark blue rock substance in the woman’s purse.

Inside the Range Rover, police found a digital scale showing packages of illegal drugs and plastic sandwich bags.

The police accused the man of falsely entrusting him with a motor vehicle and released him. Meanwhile, the woman fainted. Police thought he had overdosed.

Police administered a dose of Narcan, an antidote for heroin and opioid overdoses. Paramedics arrived at the scene and gave the woman more Narcan and took her into the ambulance.

The woman woke up and became verbally abusive to paramedics and/or police. He ripped out the wires from his body and refused further medical treatment. The police reported him and let him go.
