Katherine Ryan has revealed she was taught to fear men from a young age after her friend was murdered by her ex-boyfriend.

The 41-year-old comedian was just 19 years old when he worked as a waiter with his friend Jessica Nethery in his hometown of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.

Katherine told how she was traumatized when Jessica didn’t show up for work one day and later learned that her recently split-up boyfriend had killed her.

To talk MirrorHe said: ‘I found out he died when he never showed up for work that day. It was traumatic for everyone in town; Because this is a small place, everyone knows everyone.

‘This really affected me and I think it influenced a lot of my behaviour. (Afterwards) I proceeded very carefully.’

He added: ‘I told my mother, I remember my mother being very calm and she said to me: ‘Sometimes if you leave them they will kill you.’ And I said, ‘What?’ I asked.

Katherine said this had a huge impact on her because it happened when she was very young and her ‘brain was still growing’.

Jessica Nethery was 21 when she was murdered by her ex-partner Jeremy Molitor, then 24. Molitor attacked him in a parking lot and stabbed him 58 times.

He was sentenced to life in prison for the attack but was released on parole in 2019.

It comes after Katherine shared the harsh message she sent to male ex-colleagues who contacted her after revealing there was a ‘dangerous male comedian’ on the loose.

The comedian claimed last year that a ‘dangerous comedian’ was working in British showbiz.

During her speech at the Glamor Awards, Katherine revealed that many men she had previously worked with reached out after being accepted and they were all looking for ‘messages of proof’ that she wasn’t talking about them.

“So I had to copy and paste it a hundred times: ‘Do you really think you should text me after everything that’s happened between us?'” Katherine said, explaining how she responded, drawing huge laughter from the female crowd.

Last year, Katherine said she was ‘torn up’ with the decision to work with ‘someone I believe is a perpetrator of sexual assault’ or turn down the job.

Referring to the male comedian in question, Katherine began her speech as follows: ‘After some self-reflection, I thought: “Why should I stay at home? He’ll be there in his unnecessarily tight jeans, he’ll be wearing a beret inside, or he’ll walk away.” He’s a Tibetan monk whose views or whatever he’s trying to do.”

‘So I took the job but every time I had to talk to him I would say things like: ‘I don’t get paid enough to be here, how many times will my face be in the news, especially when your victims come forward? ” and fun banter like that.

‘By the way, it was so long ago that we were still using the word victim, now we say survivor, which would be a very different Destiny’s Child song, less empowering.’

Katherine said everyone in the industry already knew this man was a predator, but survivors were hesitant to speak out.

‘I wasn’t trying to get it canceled because everyone knew,’ he said. ‘Why didn’t you tell the journalist Katherine?’, everyone knew. “Why didn’t you tell the police?”, everyone already knew. Everyone knew but they couldn’t prove it.

‘What the journalist wanted from me was never his own name, it was women’s names. The women who tell me their stories, and I believe in a woman’s right to physical autonomy, just like I believe in her voice’s right to autonomy, and if they don’t want to come forward, that’s up to them. That’s why I couldn’t say anything.’

She went on to talk about other men, saying: ‘But something funny started to happen because I didn’t name my colleague, I started getting messages from guys I’d worked with over the years, actors, comedians. the musicians are just like, “Hey Katherine, how’s it going?”

‘I didn’t know what they wanted, so I showed these messages to my husband and he said: ‘Oh, they just want a bullshit message, they want you to send them something nice so they can show it to their manager and show off for themselves.’ “Wife, you definitely weren’t talking about them.”

‘So I had to copy and paste hundreds of times “Do you really think you should text me after everything that’s happened between us?”

The Canadian-born comedian told host Lauren Laverne on an episode of Desert Island Discs last year that she was willing to appear on a show with the man despite believing he was ‘dangerous or dangerous’. The episode comes as Russell Brand is at the center of rape and sexual assault allegations; He himself denied this but it has been recorded before.

Katherine explained that the ‘compromise’ was to continue the program with the unnamed comic, but ‘make sure he doesn’t know what I think of him under any unspecified circumstances’.

He added that he didn’t get “much of a reaction” from the comedian in question, but other comedians who were aware of the person’s reputation “really liked what I said.”

Katherine has been outspoken about the issue, and in 2018, while hosting TV comedy show Roast Battle, she allegedly challenged Russell and made comments about him on camera, which were later cut off air.

Katherine reportedly made allegations against Russell during the filming of the show, created by Fulwell 73. His comments were not included in the broadcast program, according to Deadline.

Katherine’s confrontations allegedly revealed comedians in the industry speaking openly about Russell’s sexual and predatory behavior.

A source told the newspaper that Russell was ‘absolutely furious’ after being targeted by Katherine on the programme.

Two other sources claimed that the producers wanted him to protect himself from being angered by these serious allegations.

Industry insiders have now revealed that they feel it is best for Russell to step down as a judge on the show, with ‘it eventually becoming clear that Russell does not have a good sense of humour’.
