The latest baskets were packed by more than 80 volunteers at the Darji Community Center in Vicarage Lane on October 27.

The group packed 550 baskets.

These were then given to the Diwali Hamper Brigade’s six partners, which include food banks, support services and community centres, for distribution.

Lesley Green, chief executive of Oadby Foodbank, one of the partners, said the project was “fantastic” at helping those struggling to make ends meet.

The food bank has been working with the Diwali Hamper Brigade for two years and they are given different hampers to suit different dietary needs.

“They did everything we asked them to do. Simple things like that make our job so much easier,” Ms. Green added.
