‘Sharing the Sweetness’ – Sioux Honey Association donates more than 6,000 bottles of honey to food bank

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The producers of Sue Bee Honey plan to make Siouxland sweeter by donating their honey to the local food bank.

The Sioux Honey Association announced Wednesday, Oct. 30, that it will donate more than 6,000 bottles of honey to the Siouxland Food Bank as part of its Sharing the Sweetness initiative, according to a news release from the association.

Jacob Wanderscheid, executive director of the Food Bank, says Siouxland is lucky to have a community where people make it their mission to give back to the communities where they do business.

“Our community is fortunate to have businesses like Sioux Honey Co-op that make it their mission to give back to the communities in which they do business,” said Wanderscheid. “Last year, Sioux Honey donated the most honey we have ever received. This year, in a single donation, 6,480 “They surpassed that with three pallets containing 12-ounce bottles of SUE BEE® honey.”

The Sioux Honey Association says honey is beneficial for people struggling with food insecurity.

“For people struggling with food insecurity, access to long-lasting products like honey is extremely beneficial. In addition, its long shelf life and versatility make honey a particularly ideal product for food pantries and food banks,” he said.

Wanderscheid also says this will go a long way during the food bank’s busiest season.

“Honey is shelf stable and provides a complex set of benefits. At the beginning of our peak season, this honey will go a long way to support Siouxland households this fall,” said Wanderscheid.

Kevin Hueser, president/CEO of the Sioux Honey Association, said the company plans to donate more honey in the future.

“We will continue to donate as much honey as we can to local food pantries and food banks in and surrounding communities where our beekeepers and their families live,” Hueser said. “And we will continue to share the sweetness, one bottle of SUE BEE® at a time.”
