A sheet metal worker fell to his death during the construction of a hospital building.

ST. Louis (KMOV/Gray News) – St. A sheet metal worker fell to his death during the construction of a hospital in St. Louis.

The fall occurred Friday at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said the man was working on a ladder when he fell 40 feet onto the concrete floor and hit his head. He died two days later.

Worked for the man IWRSt. Louis-based contractor.

The construction company working on the project is McCarthyHe sent the following statement:

“A sheet metal worker working for IWR North America was injured on Friday, October 25th in St. Louis.

We extend our sincere condolences to all family, friends, team members and employees. We offer support to the family, project team, workforce and partners.

During the preliminary investigation, it was determined that the person was injured during the installation of the metal insulated panel. Emergency personnel were immediately contacted and the person was taken to the emergency room of an area hospital. Out of respect for the privacy of the individual’s family, we will not be sharing any further details at this time.

Safety is our number one priority on every McCarthy project and we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating and supporting a safe workplace for everyone who works on or visits our jobsites. “We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and all relevant authorities.”

OSHA continues to investigate.
