SOMERSET, Maryland (7News) — In September, an inmate was found dead in his prison cell in Westover, Maryland, according to authorities.

Police said an internal investigation unit contacted Maryland State Police on Sept. 21 when they found 38-year-old Virgil Bernard Robinson unresponsive in his cell at Eastern Correctional Institution. Robinson was pronounced dead in state prison.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation along with the Public Safety and Department of Corrections Internal Investigations Unit, which located Robinson. Once the investigation is completed, it will be submitted to the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office for review, police said.
