SAN ANTONIO – A man died after being struck by a VIA Metropolitan Transit van while trying to cross Loop 410, according to San Antonio police.

The crash happened around 3:40 a.m. Thursday in the westbound lanes of Loop 410, near the Evers Road exit.

Police said the man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

All westbound lanes of Loop 410 were closed from Callaghan Road to Evers Road as crews worked to clear the scene. Transguide cameras showed the lanes were open around 5:45 a.m.

SAPD, TxDOT and VIA transit police were on scene.

There were no passengers in the minibus at the time of the accident, a VIA spokesman said in a statement on Thursday morning.
