Harlequins scrum coach Nick Evans believes keeping things “simple” has allowed Rodrigo Isgro, who made headlines in the Premiership with his back-to-back, to thrive.

The Los Pumas star only met his new employer after the Rugby Championship, but has already scored three tries to his name in the Quins quarters and has quickly caught the eye of fans across the league.

“Keep it really simple”

The centre-back, who also had an illustrious career in the Sevens, was at the center of his side’s 36-19 win against Exeter Chiefs last weekend. Planet Rugby after the game, Quintuplets Coach Evans revealed they are still trying to find ways to use him effectively following his mid-season move to the capital.

“I think we can be honest and say we are still finding ways to use it,” Evans said. “It’s only been two or three weeks.”

“It’s not easy for him to get into a new environment, he’s a great person but there’s a bit of a language barrier and he’s still learning new defense and attack systems.”

Evans also believes the key to his success is using it in a “simple” way.

“We tried to keep it really simple and, first and foremost, try to give him the ball in space,” Evans continued. “He also has super strength in the air, you saw that with his aerial opportunities last week.

“So the more opportunities we get to get him on the ball, he will have an impact on the game.”

Los Pumas The winger is one of several international players selected at Stoop. Wales and British & Irish Lions duo Leigh Halfpenny and Wyn Jones have also joined the club, as have USA and Samoa international duo Titi Lamositele.

The Pumas star has enjoyed great success since arriving in the Premiership, scoring a goal on his debut against Bath and adding to his tally with another fine score against Chiefs at Sandy Park.

The elusive back made his debut for Los Pumas in the 2023 Rugby Championship and has made four appearances in the XVs. However, most of his career was spent in Sevens and he is regarded as one of the format’s best. During his time at the Sevens, he was named World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year in 2023 and also represented Argentina at the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.
