LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas man called police and admitted to stabbing someone on an RTC bus, according to a Metro arrest report.

FOX5 obtained an arrest report for Maurice Carroll “Smith” from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Carroll is accused of a stabbing on the night of Oct. 22 at Eastern and Stewart streets.

According to eyewitness accounts and surveillance videos, a group of three people boarded an RTC bus.

The arrest report states that these men were drunk and may have shouted racial slurs in English and Spanish. Carroll was outraged by their speech.

Police said Carroll confronted the group and told them to stop talking. One of the men stood up and began arguing with Carroll.

The fight turned physical. The bus driver would pull over and open the doors.

At one point during the fight, Carroll thought the man pulled a gun from his backpack. He told police he used a knife to stab the man twice.

After the stabbing, Carroll got off the bus, dropped the knife next to a nearby bush, and called police.

In a police dispatch call, Carroll told police he had been “jumped” by three men who shouted racial slurs at him.

When officers arrived and interviewed Carroll, he said the stabbing was in self-defense and explained where he dropped the gun.

During the investigation, police did not find any weapons on the victim. First responders arrived and transported the man to UMC, where he underwent emergency surgery and is recovering.

Following LVMPD’s investigation, officers arrested Carroll on three counts of battery and attempted murder. He is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. Nov. 11, according to court records.
