The NBA’s rookie class was as bad as everyone expected during the first week

2024 NBA draft Expectations for the class were low heading into the 2024-25 campaign, but they felt the hate they received at times was excessive. Of course, the class didn’t have the version of Victor Wembanyama, Paolo Banchero and Zion Williamson, but it couldn’t be that bad, right?

Not all draft classes get a ton of hype. For example, the 2013 NBA Draft, where Anthony Bennett was selected No. 1 overall, was considered a bad class. Victor Oladipo is a two-time All-Star, CJ McCollum averaged 20 points per game for his career, and oh yeah, Giannis Antetokoumpo will be a future Hall of Famer. He was selected 15th overall and failed to qualify in the lottery, widely viewed as a bad class. The class still hadn’t aged wonderfully, but it hadn’t aged terribly either.

It’s only been a handful of games for the 2024 rookie class, but early returns have proven the haters right. His bad.

Between Monday’s match Atlanta Falcons And Washington Wizards The first two picks of the draft were Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr. They combined to go 4-for-19 from the field and 2-for-9 from 3-point range. Unfortunately it happened par for the course for these two and the other rookies so far.

The only rookie who has played well in the lottery so far is Donovan Clingan, who was selected with the 7th pick by the Portland Trail Blazers. While this is encouraging, he averaged just 13.6 minutes per game as Deandre Ayton’s backup center.

Guards and forwards drafted early were extremely inefficient and often saw their minutes limited because of it. Even a big man like Zach Edey has more personal fouls (15) than shots (14). high expectations He played as a starter for the Memphis Grizzlies and was inefficient when looking at his play.

Even top-eight players like Tidjane Salaun and Rob Dillingham could barely see the field. Dillingham didn’t even play for the Minnesota Timberwolves, despite having a great preseason. It’s shocking that Salaun was drafted 6th overall but never appeared on a bad Charlotte Hornets team with low expectations.

It’s still early and the classroom will look better (it can’t possibly look worse) but the truth is nobody What stands out so far is pretty crazy. It will get better, but if early returns are any indication, this class has been in really good form. HE bad.
