Serial child predator in Montgomery County sentenced to life in prison without parole

A. Montgomery County the man was delivered multiple life sentences No parole for extreme and protracted sexual offenses against children.

Joshua Vanarsdale, 32, was charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, aggravated assault on a child and five counts of possession of child pornography.

Vanarsdale was first brought to the attention of local authorities when Google reported that a user had uploaded hundreds of images depicting child sexual abuse. Among the uploaded content was a video of a man later identified as Vanarsdale abusing a 6-year-old boy. Investigators identified the victim in the video and a search warrant was executed at Vanarsdale’s home approximately three days after the tip was received.

Montgomery County authorities seized numerous devices from residents, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force confirmed that the devices contained thousands of images of child abuse, as well as other grotesque content such as bestiality, torture, murder and bodily dismemberment.

When questioned, Vanarsdale admitted that he was the person in the harassment video from the first report. He also told investigators he had been consuming abusive material for seven years.

During the investigation, another minor came forward and disclosed that Vanarsdale had been abusing them.

After being arrested and charged, Vanarsdale denied all charges, but after about 30 minutes of deliberation, a Montgomery County jury found him guilty on all charges on October 23.

On October 25, he was sentenced to two life sentences plus an additional 50 years in prison for five counts of possession of abuse material. All charges will run consecutively and he will never be eligible for parole.

“It is rare to encounter a malicious individual like Joshua Aaron Vanarsdale,” Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon said in a statement announcing the sentence. “His disturbing obsession with harming children and his obsession with death and darkness have made him a true predator hiding in plain sight. Today’s sentence ensures that he remains permanently separated from society, protecting our society from the darkness within it. And how magnificent this darkness is.”
