Chicago Bears Week 9 Wednesday Injury Report: O-Line Issues

The Bears’ offensive line injuries in the last game were worse than expected, especially at tackle.

The Bears had no practice on Wednesday and only had a walk-through in preparation for the Cardinals game. Coach Matt Eberflus acknowledged the O-line situation was one reason.

Rookie tackle Kiran Amegadjie injured his calf in the game and would not have practiced if practice had been held.

Braxton replaced Jones on Sunday, and Jones has a knee injury. Jones couldn’t train either.

“It doesn’t seem like he can come back from this by just being out there talking about Kiran,” Eberflus said. “And Braxton Jones, the knee, we’ll see where that goes. That’s something he’s been working on and we’ll see where that goes.”

Guard’s situation was a little more positive. Both Teven Jenkins (knee) and Ryan Bates would be limited outs. The Bears are considering taking Bates off injured reserve. He injured his shoulder in the first match and has not played since.

Tackle Larry Borom (ankle) is also on injured reserve and could be reinstated. He went through a full training session.

Neither safety Jaquan Brisker (concussion) nor cornerback Kyler Gordon (hamstring) could return to practice yet. Brisker has been out since the Bears’ game against Carolina before their trip to London, while Gordon missed last week’s game.

The other big injury issue is defenseman Montez Sweat, who left Sunday’s game with a shin issue. He was also unable to train.

“He’s got a shin sprain and he’s working on that again and we’re hopeful about that,” Eberflus said. “We’ll see where it goes.”

The offensive line’s situation could change drastically by the end of the week. They prefer to use players who have played on IR instead of players who have worked.

“We will stay with the men who are there,” Eberflus said. “They did a good job. If they’re all good for us, we did a good job running the ball. We’ll see where this goes.”

“We don’t have the answers to that as we move forward, but it’s been a really solid job of the O-line and the offensive staff cross-training these guys, as you saw in the last game, we’re able to get these guys to work and get them to work like we can get past this.”
