Lee County Sheriff’s Office employee reports drug suspect in danger of arrest

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says a former employee tipped off a suspect involved in an active drug case.

According to LCSO, Savannah Georges was working as a civilian warrant clerk. Deputies say he gave classified information to Michael Banks, who was under investigation as a high-level narcotics trafficker in Fort Myers.

Deputies issued an arrest warrant for Banks on October 27 and a search warrant at houses affiliated with him on October 30.

In a police report, deputies said Banks took the information and attempted to move his narcotics and leave law enforcement.

The same day, the report states, Banks said he had an informant within the agency.

“The release of this sensitive information jeopardizes the investigation and raises safety concerns for the officers involved,” the report said.

As part of the investigation, the report states that Georges was the person who told Banks about the arrest warrant.

He was found at his home in Lehigh Acres the next day and charged with disclosing classified criminal justice information.

Georges started with LCSO in 2023, and the agency says he has no concerns or significant incidents in his file.

He has since been fired.

“Whether under oath or under oath, Sheriff Carmine Marceno takes any allegation of a crime seriously when it involves an allegation from us and confirms that no member of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is above the law,” LCSO said in a statement. he said.
