Former Atlanta Braves First baseman Freddie Freeman dominates the World Series. He is clearly ahead MVP of the series. But his run brings some of the emotions back into the fray from when he left Atlanta in free agency.

Another notable ex-Brave stepped in when he noticed the conversation.

It’s all from The Athletic’s former Braves writer Jeff Schultz Tweeted about Freeman’s fourth home run of the World Series on Tuesday night.

“He’s too old.”
“It will slide.”
“Not worth the contract.”

While the tweet is seemingly vague, its implications are pretty clear. Letting Freeman walk was a mistake.

Someone tweeted at him stating that Freeman had chosen to leave, and someone else tried to point out that it was because of Freeman’s agent.

This points to a controversy that arose after Freeman’s first game with the Dodgers in Atlanta. He fired his manager after that weekend series due to Freeman’s dissatisfaction with the course of his free agency.

Reports included that his former agent handled the issue in a way that prevented Freeman from re-signing in Atlanta. The former agent denied this.

This is where Chipper Jones comes into play.

“The agent works for him, not the other way around.” he said in an answer.

After his responder showed him a screenshot of Colin Cowherd’s post describing Freeman’s agent, Jones decided not to hear it. He defended his former manager and stated that Freeman could stay with the Braves if he wanted.

He also took the opportunity to defend first baseman Matt Olson, who has been a mostly solid player as Freeman’s successor. He pointed out that everyone has a selective memory of how they treated the situation in the last two years.

“No excuses….as a player, you play where you want to play. The manager works for the player. Any miscommunication is the player’s fault. No deal is signed or rejected without the player’s consent. Period. But hey, I’m happy for Freddie. In the long run, things are his It’s worked out for him and he and his family are happy in Los Angeles So let’s just let it go and move on (Matt Olson) I never heard of that when he turned 50 last year now (Freeman) is on American television on WS and People (The) scenario could be reversed in 11 months, people (Freeman) is not playing here anymore….(Olson) is happy you still have a stud goaltender Go Braves!”

Jones played for the Braves his entire career, from 1993 to 2012. He is an eight-time all-star, the 1999 NL MVP, received MVP votes in 13 total seasons and was a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2018.

Freeman signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 2022 season following the Braves World Series championship season. Olson was acquired in a trade from the Oakland Athletics that same offseason.

During the 2024 World Series, Freeman hit four home runs in four games, one in each game. He is right now He slashes .313/.353/1.188.
