Indianapolis Colts Continue Slump in ESPN Power Rankings After Loss to Houston Texans

It’s hard to believe Indianapolis Colts‘ (4-4) 23-20 defeat Houston Texans (6-2) arrived three days ago.

Since the Colts were swept by the Texans, chaos has ensued around the goings-on at W 56th Street. ‘ESPN’Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler reported Tuesday: Colts benched quarterback Anthony Richardson in favor of Joe Flacco. head coach Shane Steichen told the media on Monday: He said Indy “evaluated everything” and Richardson’s demotion was a result of that evaluation.

As the Colts prepare to move forward with Flacco as the starter, Indy is still viewed as a bottom-three team in the NFL by the NFL Nation team. Colts down one point ESPN NFL Power Rankings This week after the Texans’ defeat. The Colts fell in the rankings for the second consecutive year, falling from 20th to 21st.

The Colts are the lowest-ranked team in the power rankings without a losing record. Two teams with losing records Los Angeles Rams (3-4) and Dallas Cowboys (3-4), are actually ranked above the Colts, ranked 19th and 20th, respectively. To move up the rankings, the Colts will need to pick up a few wins against tough competition in the coming weeks.

NFL Nation reporters were asked to identify each team’s top offseason players to include in their power rankings. Stephen Holder picks rookie pass rusher Laiatu Latu as the team’s best addition. While his sack numbers aren’t there yet (two in eight games), Latu is impacting the point guard in other ways and generating a lot of pressure.

“Indianapolis had as quiet an offseason as any team in the NFL, so newcomers were few.” Holder wrote.. “But Latu, a first-round draft pick, is showing signs of becoming a foundational player for the Colts. He ranks third among rookies with 11 pass rushes and second among first-year players with 17 passing tackles. According to ESPN tracking, Latu’s pressure has generated three pass rushes. He was sacked despite being double-teamed on 20.3% of his rushes.”

The Colts and Latu will try to get back into the road winning streak this week. Minnesota Vikings (5-2) on Sunday Night Football. All eyes will be on Flacco during the Prime Time game to see if Steichen and the Colts make the right decision.
