HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) – Elizabethtown police confirm two men were found dead in a burning home.

Firefighters responded to the 500 block of Henon Lane shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday. Officials said the house was completely flooded when they arrived.

EPD Public Information Officer Chris Denham said firefighters entered the home and found two men dead inside. The cause and manner of their deaths are currently unknown. An autopsy will be performed in the coming days.

The fire is being investigated as a death investigation involving suspicious circumstances, Denham said. Within an hour and a half of the initial report of the fire, police and first responders were able to identify a man Denham said had knowledge of the investigation.

The man is being questioned by police but is not labeled as a suspect. More information will be released as the investigation continues.

“Once we respond to the fire scene and find the people who died, we will conduct a very thorough investigation,” Denham said. “There were some potential reports of some events that occurred.”

Denham said there were rumors circulating this morning that someone had fled or left the area near the scene at a high rate of speed. Police responded to a hotel on East Dixie Highway, where the man with information came out to speak with police.

Denham says this is a precautionary measure to mobilize special response teams and hostage negotiators if a critical incident occurs.

It is unknown what caused the fire. Denham said there was no threat to the community and no homes in the neighborhood were damaged by the fire. Nearby schools and businesses will continue to operate as normal.
