Family hope new Crime Stoppers reward ends 3 years after man’s death

SAN ANTONIO – Three years after their loved one was stabbed to death, a San Antonio family Crime Stoppers hopes increasing the reward money will bring them answers.

Troy Demetrius Lee, 22, was a son, a father, and a street priest. He died months before the birth of his second daughter.

“We take comfort in knowing that she is now our angel,” said her aunt, Michaela Gallegos-Gaitan. “He always spoke that word before. He always shared positivity towards everyone. He would tell me and his family, ‘Stay positive.’ “It will get better.”

These are powerful words that the family continues to repeat to themselves today, as if their murder remains unsolved.

The family said June 28, 2021Because Lee is a night owl, he was playing outside his apartment as he always did.

Something happened that caused her to call 911. stabbed.

When San Antonio police arrived they found him on a hill near the bus stop and unfortunately he died on the way to the hospital.

Lee never had the chance to meet his daughter, Troi’ Sapphire Lee, who is now 3 years old.

“He definitely knows his father,” Gallegos-Gaitan said. “He knows her in spirit and hears about her from us all the time. We always tell him that his father is handsome. She is beautiful like her father. He loved her. He loved her and continues to look out for her.

The family said the investigation hit a dead end after the original detective assigned to the case was reassigned to another department.

Lee’s case was reopened earlier this year, which gave the family some hope.

“The assigned detective reaches out to people, goes back and re-interviews them, trying to find things they might have missed in the first place,” Gallegos-Gaitan said. “We’re hopeful, but we want to make sure this continues. Someone killed Troy, and someone is still out there and could potentially hurt someone else.”

For Dia De Los Muertos, the family added Lee to an ofrenda set up at Mission San Jose.

“He is now with our loved one who passed before him but he was too young to leave,” Gallegos-Gaitan said. “She had her whole life ahead of her. She had children to raise, and she’s not here to do that. We just want justice for her. We need justice for her.”

The family increased the original Crime Stoppers reward from $5,000 to $10,000. Anyone with information is asked to call (210)-224-STOP.

“The sad thing is we don’t know who could have done this,” Gallegos-Gaitan said. “But if you are afraid to talk, don’t be afraid. Talk. It’s for the right reasons. We want to ensure justice. “If you know anything, we ask that you please speak up.”
