The Prime Minister and Ministers made an inspection tour of the new maternity hospital.

KUWAIT CITY, October 29: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi announced on Tuesday that the official opening of the new maternity hospital will take place in the next few weeks. The hospital’s outpatient clinics, as well as its radiology and medical laboratory departments, are already fully operational.

This announcement followed an inspection tour by His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al Ahmed Al Sabah and other ministers of the new maternity hospital located in Al Sabah Specialized Medical Zone.

Dr. Al-Awadhi emphasized that the new facility is an important component of the country’s health infrastructure development plan in line with the “New Kuwait 2035” vision. This initiative aims to improve the health and well-being of all citizens.

The new maternity hospital spans 65,000 square meters in a prime location along the Kuwait Gulf. It is designed according to the latest international standards for the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological and obstetric conditions and includes specifications for modern, environmentally friendly green buildings that are energy efficient and for the care of premature newborns.

The hospital, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices and facilities, will have a bed capacity of 789, including 59 delivery rooms and 28 operating rooms.

The hospital consists of four main buildings. The first of these is the 236,944 square meter main maternity hospital, consisting of six interconnected floors, a basement, a ground floor and three large towers. This building will include administration, main entrance, emergency room, operating rooms, pharmacies, radiology services, medical records, engineering services, laboratories, fertility unit, physiotherapy services, infection prevention department, mechanical services and intensive care units for both adults and adults. as well as premature babies, social services and patient wards.

The second building, dedicated to polyclinics, covers an area of ​​56,740 square meters and includes two basement floors that can accommodate 532 vehicles, and the ground floor containing the pharmacy and patient reception area. This structure includes five floors reserved for outpatient clinics, as well as lecture halls and administrative offices.

The third building covers an area of ​​49,900 square meters, accommodating 1,219 vehicles on two basement floors, a ground floor and five additional floors, as well as serving as a parking area with a total of 1,800 parking spaces on the rooftop.

The fourth building is for central services with an area of ​​12,129 square meters and is connected to the hospital buildings via a service tunnel. It includes solar panels, central air conditioning equipment, underground fuel tanks and generators for electricity generation.

Also Dr. Al-Awadhi noted that the hospital includes four air-conditioned pedestrian bridges with a total area of ​​1,615 square meters, connecting all project buildings and facilitating the movement of health authority staff and visitors.

The hospital was designed with a sea wall that will act as a breakwater against waves reaching up to 320 meters, an important element in coastal construction projects. These seawall facilities will protect shorelines and surrounding properties from climate impacts and increase the stability of coastal projects.

Regarding the patient and service components of the hospital, the minister announced that there are 470 private rooms distributed across 19 wards, 80 beds in the adult intensive care unit and 249 beds in the intensive care unit for premature babies. The polyclinics will consist of 81 clinics as well as three main pharmacies (central, outpatient and emergency).

While there are 59 delivery rooms in the birth wards, there will be 28 rooms distributed over four floors in the operating room section. The hospital will also have many special laboratories, including tissue, hematology, blood diseases, blood banking, biochemistry, microbiology, premarital examination laboratories, the main blood collection unit in the polyclinic building, as well as radiology and physiotherapy departments.
