‘Disappointing’ behavior of Indian passengers during flight: NRI’s post goes viral; Netizens react

A post by a Reddit Non-Residential Indian (NRI) user living in Krakow, Poland, went viral on social media, where he complained about the disappointing behavior of other Indians during the flight.

The user reported: Flight from Munich to Delhi eight hours late. During this time, he outlined nine habits that Indian travelers found particularly annoying.

He wrote in his post: “1) While on the other side of the airport there was no problem, all I heard was loud Indian guttural shouting; 2) People were loudly blasting their Instagram reels; 3) Skipping queues as others wait for hours to get behind a man who doesn’t have basic human etiquette; 4) I never believed the stereotypes about smelly Indians because I never encountered them, but it has changed. Is it so difficult to carry deodorant?

He described the incident he experienced when he got on the plane as follows: “When I got on the plane: 5) There was immediate panic because people started sitting in seats that did not belong to them because they wanted to sit with their families… Meanwhile, the others got angry and the attendant had to come and fix it. 6) A man was 7-8 years old. He asked for chocolate twice and even gave me his food twice, he didn’t say no because he couldn’t do it but I could see it on his face. What is his obsession with free stuff? That’s all I’m saying. It doesn’t make a good impression. 7) The women other than me kept the place to themselves and when I tried to reserve some space. they acted very ignorant and also I was asked to change my seat (I didn’t) 8) He took his shoes and the smell was so awful that me and the guy next to me (from Slovakia) woke up and we couldn’t. I don’t complain because it’s so rude I went to the attendant and asked for a different seat. The plane was full and he said “yes we have a smell problem on this flight” and gave me a balm to apply to my nostrils. This is what they use.

The user concluded: “9) One of the assistant staff was helping a disabled lady with the luggage and she was trying to see her luggage, but people are so ignorant that they started blocking her because they wanted to go first.”

He added: “All I am trying to say in this post is if you are an individual who behaves like this, please understand that everyone notices it, people are too polite to point it out. You all represent India so please behave like human beings.”

To everyone’s surprise, many users agreed with the post, highlighting their shared disappointment with the behavior of some Indian passengers. One user said, “People are blaming the government because there is no improvement. They forget to understand that no matter what government comes in, people will remain the same.”

Another user added“I feel the same way. “I have traveled internationally at least 50 times and had the same experience every time.”

Some criticized and said: “As an NRI, this really affects me. The extreme lack of civic sense is simply disheartening. “Either that, or they behave completely civilized abroad and become extremely corrupt the moment they return to India.”

“The sense of citizenship should be taught loudly and encouraged.” A user has been added.

“Even if we beat China and the US in terms of economic growth and became the most developed country on this planet, we would collectively be deprived of one thing, a sense of citizenship; “People are so lacking in civic sense that it makes me question: is the spending on education worth it?”
