Chief ICT prosecutor seeks access to state digital infrastructure

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICT) requested authorization from the digital forensics laboratory of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology to collect digital evidence, use the authorized server of the National Data Center and secure special cybersecurity for the storage of server data.

ICT Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam made this demand in his letter to ministry advisor Nahid Islam on October 24.

The letter sought support in some specific areas within the jurisdiction of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies.

The ICT chief prosecutor sought to grant legitimate access to the National Data Centre, Bangladesh Computer Council and Cyber ​​Security Agency infrastructures under the ICT Division for the secure storage and analysis of sensitive digital evidence related to crimes against humanity and genocide.

In the letter, Tajul Islam requested necessary infrastructure support and steps to ensure legitimate access and dedicated cybersecurity for the digital forensics laboratory and other important government documents, records and servers within the ICT Division.

He asked the consultant to take necessary steps and provide infrastructure support to ensure proper chain of custody for sensitive information.

Tajul Islam also requested secure server and national domain email services through the Information and Communications Technology Division to ensure the cybersecurity of the International Crimes Tribunal.

In the letter, the ICT chief prosecutor called on counsel to provide the necessary additional technical and infrastructural support for the above-mentioned fair trial and investigation purposes.

In his letter, the ICT chief prosecutor also emphasized the importance of digital forensics in judicial processes. Digital forensics plays a crucial role in the modern judicial process, he said, adding that the ICT Department’s support for the investigation of heinous crimes such as crimes against humanity and genocide will not only increase the reliability of the investigation but also ensure that it is carried out quickly and accurately. and legal actions in line with international standards.

The letter requested the ICT consultant to provide the necessary access and facilities as soon as possible.
