At Least One Serious Injury Among Bears’ Offensive Chiefs

The Cinderella story of the Bears’ offensive line this season ended on Tuesday; Former practice squad offensive lineman Bill Murray went to the bench for Sunday’s game with a chest injury.

Murray is a former college linebacker who moved to the offensive line. He was on the Patriots, was cut, came to the Bears practice squad and played well enough in training camp to make the 53-man Bears roster as a reserve guard this year.

Murray came on after Teven Jenkins was injured in Sunday’s game and was subsequently injured himself.

There are a few options for the Bears to step up, such as using Nate Davis again at right guard or bringing Ryan Bates into action from injured reserve.

Injuries to the offensive line hit them hard on Sunday, and more information will be released on the severity of Jenkins and Braxton Jones’ knee injuries. Rookie Kiran Amegadjie saw her first comprehensive game action and struggled at times.

If they need another offensive lineman, Larry Borom is eligible to come off injured reserve this week.

Unlike previous seasons, the offensive line remained relatively solid. They were averaging a different lineup every two weeks in 2022 and 2023 but have only changed their starting lineup once so far; Matt Pryor took over from Davis at right guard in Week 3.

The Bears added offensive lineman to the practice squad and removed long snapper Jake McQuaide from the practice squad when they signed Austen Pleasants on Tuesday. Pleasants was on the Bears practice squad in 2023.

Pleasants is a 6-foot-1, 330-pound tackle and guard. He appeared in one game for Carolina in 2021 and one game for the Chargers in 2023.

.

Pleasants was released two weeks ago by this week’s Bears opponent, the Cardinals. He has been on practice squads or training camps with numerous other teams. He also played for the Cardinals this year and has also played for the Chargers, Panthers and Jaguars.
