Brewers Hill man accused of murdering girlfriend falls out with police

BALTIMORE — Detectives are connecting a shooting in Baltimore County to a homicide in Baltimore City’s Brewers Hill neighborhood.

On Monday night, Baltimore Police visited an apartment in the Porter complex on Toone Street to speak with 28-year-old Amy Armstrong.

Meanwhile, in the backyard of a home in Owings Mills, county officers were negotiating with her boyfriend, Gabriel Gomez-Fiorenza, 27, who was carrying an AR-15 and threatening to take his own life.

Initially, the police wanted to ask Amy what was bothering Gabriel, but she never answered the door.

After surrendering, Gabriel admitted to shooting Amy inside their apartment.

That’s when Baltimore City officers burst through the unlocked door of Amy and Gabriel’s apartment and found her shot to death in the kitchen.

Police found a .223 caliber cartridge on the ground, indicating that Amy was killed with Gabriel’s AR-15.

During an interview with detectives, Gabriel said he and Amy had argued earlier in the day. It is not clear what happened.

He claims he took his AR-15 in the couple’s kitchen with plans to take his own life.

Gabriel said he heard Amy shelve the gun and encouraged her to leave the bedroom and grab the gun.

Gabriel remembered keeping his finger on the trigger as Amy tried to grab the gun, which caused the gun to fire and hit Amy in the head and facial area.

Gabriel remembers saying Amy’s name after he fell to the ground, but did not call for help.

Instead, he got in his car and drove to his family’s home in Owings Mills, where he engaged in a shootout with police.

Gabriel now faces first- and second-degree murder charges.
