Grand Rapids early voting site still open despite sewer main break

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Crews are closing the main entrance to one of Grand Rapids’ early voting sites Tuesday as they try to repair a sewer main break, but the city says you can still access the site.

While crews worked, a section of Fuller Avenue NE was closed Tuesday between Leonard Street NE and Sweet Street NE, which includes the main entrance to GRPS University, one of four early in-person voting sites for Grand Rapids residents.

Crews on scene tell News 8 the sewer main runs under Fuller Boulevard. They said that a sinkhole had formed in the area for the last few days.

Despite the roadworks, the city of Grand Rapids says you can still access GRPS University via a temporary entrance from Sweet Street NE. If you’re coming from the north, you can use Fuller Avenue NE, Travis Street NE, and Auburn Avenue NE to get to Sweet Street NE, or you can use Ball Avenue NE to get to Sweet Street NE. By the way, if you’re coming from the south, you can take Ball Avenue NE to Sweet Street NE.

Grand Rapids also offers three other early voting sites:St. Peter & Paul School, Ottawa Hills High School and DeVos Place, Exhibition Hall B. Every Grand Rapids resident will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. can vote early at any of four locations. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 17.00. The last day to vote early will be Sunday, November 3.

Crews told News 8 they hope to finish the job by the end of the day Tuesday.
