Real Ale Campaign Crowned Britain’s Best Beer in 2024

Voted the best beer in England!

Please raise your glasses to Crouch Vale Brewery’s Amarillo, crowned with Real Ale’s British 2024 Champion Beer Campaign.

Amarillo from Crouch Vale (5 per cent ABV) was praised by judge Christine Cryne for its ‘pungent aroma with a slight biscuit note’. Its taste is full of tropical and citrus notes on a sweet biscuit base. Dry sweet-bitter finish. ‘A full-flavored beer.’

He added that he was there ‘extraordinarily strong competition’ but Amarillo was still a worthy winner. The evaluation takes two years and is done entirely through blind tasting. Crouch Vale Brewery was founded in 1981 and has won CAMRA gongs before, but this was the first for almost two decades.

Crouch Vale Brewery managers Colin and Fiona Bocking said of the win: ‘We are very pleased. We’ve been doing this for half our lives. We won in 2005, we won in 2006, there is a 19-year gap. Hopefully this will show people that we’re still around and still making great beer. This is a beer that has been produced for 30 years. When very exciting American hops became available at the time, we decided to use Amarillo hops from Washington State in the USA, and we still do. Today.’
