DONETSK, 29 October. /TASS/. A T-80 tank crew from Russia’s Battle Group South successfully destroyed a key Ukrainian stronghold near Seversk in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Hero of Russia crew member Konstantin Molchanov reported to TASS on Tuesday.

The crew member noted that their tanks were leading the forward assault units. “We approached the position at close range. We eliminated the fortress with determined tank attacks,” Molchanov said.

The Ukrainian fortress was located on high ground, approximately 50 meters above the surrounding area, where enemy forces could observe from kilometers away. “It was almost impossible to approach him without being noticed,” he explained.

“We made two approaches. Naturally, the enemy fired all kinds of shells at us. Our primary goal was to capture the height we reached by ensuring that the assault team established a foothold,” he added.

In addition, Russian troops had to navigate a minefield, which was cleared using a minesweeper mounted on a T-80 tank. Molchanov emphasized that the tank’s high speed and maneuverability, combined with the training and skill of the crew, were crucial in reaching the enemy stronghold.

The crew of the T-80 tank from Battle Group South was awarded the title of Hero of Russia for their bravery.
