Bismarck to prepare arts and culture master plan

BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – Bismarck offers options to follow and engage with the arts and culture scene, from galleries to concerts to plays, but the city and the Dakota West Arts Council believe more can be done.

“This is definitely a focal point in a community. It highlights what community really is. It can highlight who people are in the community, what a community wants to be, what it wants to showcase,” Bismarck Community Development Planner Lauren Oster said.

To achieve this, an arts and culture master plan is being worked on to secure long-term funding that will help stimulate the growth of Bismarck’s arts and culture footprint.

They are turning to cultural organizations, businesses and citizens to get a clearer view of where to focus in their master plans.

“I think it’s really important for us to better understand each other and understand the society that we live in, and I think the arts are a really easy gateway to doing that,” said Jason Thoms, Executive Director of the Dakota West Arts Council.

Thoms said you need to listen to his voice to guide the community.

If you want to make your voice heard, you can take it arts and culture research and look for future opportunities as the master plan progresses, such as attending the Bismarck City Commission meeting on Nov. 12.
