Traffic stop leads to guns, ammunition found in Bensalem: Police – NBC10 Philadelphia

Investigators said a traffic stop in Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania, led to the discovery of weapons, including an AR-15-style rifle and ammunition.

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 26, when a Bensalem Township Police officer noticed a dark-colored Mazda traveling southbound on Hulmeville Road near the Byberry Road intersection. Investigators said the vehicle’s windows were heavily tinted. Investigators said the Mazda accelerated and committed a traffic violation as the officer passed behind the vehicle, nearly hitting another vehicle on the road.

The officer then pulled the Mazda onto Park Avenue.

“He approaches from the passenger side because the tint is too dark for him to see in the vehicle,” Bensalem County Public Safety Director William McVey said. “And we know how dangerous that can be for a police officer because he has no idea what’s in that vehicle.”

Investigators said the officer approached the rear of the Mazda and told the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Victor Miles of Flourtown, Pennsylvania, to roll down the windows because he could not see inside the car due to the intense tint. Miles allegedly refused to open the window and tried several times to get the officer to approach the driver’s side.

More officers later arrived at the scene and spoke with Miles, who was uncooperative, investigators said. One of the officers then got close enough to the passenger window to look inside and determine Miles was the only person in the car, according to police. Investigators said the officer later found a gun in the front passenger seat that appeared to be an “AK-style” handgun.

Police said officers ordered Miles to exit the vehicle and he refused to comply, occasionally reaching for a gun. Miles later emerged from the Mazda unarmed and was taken into custody, according to investigators.

“We see this happening across the country today. People are being stopped and they don’t want to obey the police,” McVey said. “Things could be very bad here.”

Investigators said police determined the gun had an obliterated serial number, a loaded banana-style magazine, a bullet in the chamber and was ready to be fired.

The vehicle was towed to the Bensalem County Police Department and investigators obtained a search warrant.

During the search, police seized an AK-style pistol with the serial number obliterated, a second AR-15 rifle in the trunk, multiple loaded firearm magazines for multiple weapons, shotgun shells, a black “Blake mask” style mask, a pair of hand grenades. Investigators said gloves, a black hooded sweatshirt with black tape covering the white text on the front, a large amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found.

Police said guns, ammunition and clothing were seized from Miles’ vehicle.

Miles was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm with altered manufacturer number, altering or erasing identification marks, and vehicle code offenses. He was arraigned and sent to the Bucks County Department of Corrections on 10 percent of $300,000 bail. Online court records do not list an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

While Miles is in custody, police believe he may be involved in other crimes in the area.

“We want the public to clearly look at the individual and the clothing he may have worn when committing other crimes,” McVey said.
